UntroD Capital Japan (UntroD) and QB Capital have announced a comprehensive partnership to accelerate the creation and growth of deep tech startups originating from universities and research institutions across Japan.

This marks the first partnership of its kind between deep tech-specialized venture capital firms in Japan, covering the entire spectrum from identifying pre-startup seeds in academic institutions to securing gap funds, business development, investment review, and post-investment growth support. Combined, the firms manage approximately 52 billion yen. They have previously invested in startups across 29 prefectures and possess a track record of collaboration with 51 universities and research institutions.

Key initiatives of this partnership include: 1. Joint identification and investment in startup seeds from universities and research institutions nationwide. 2. Joint promotion of gap fund activities. 3. Joint growth support for portfolio companies. 4. Strengthening regional deep tech ecosystems starting from Kyushu.

Through this partnership, the firms aim to strengthen a model for deep tech startup creation that originates from all corners of Japan, rather than relying solely on concentration in Tokyo.
