About Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre

Located in front of Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (commonly known as Geikiku) is a multidisciplinary arts and cultural complex featuring four specialized halls for music, theatre, and dance, as well as exhibition spaces. It includes a music-dedicated Concert Hall with one of the world’s largest pipe organs, a Playhouse and two small halls for theatre and dance performances, and functions as a creative hub for the production and presentation of performing arts. The venue also actively hosts exhibitions, lectures, and workshops in its ateliers and galleries.

Highlights of the Theatre Tour

The monthly 'Theatre Tour' is conducted by guides who lead visitors through the halls. The tour shares behind-the-scenes stories known only to theatre staff, including the history of Geikiku and the unique features of each hall. While the tour route changes depending on hall availability, each session offers a rich experience—covering both the technical aspects such as architecture and stage mechanisms, and the artistic side through current performances and concerts, as well as viewing artworks placed throughout the venue.

Guided by Tour Guides

Our tour guides are passionate theatre lovers who share their expertise and personalities to convey the charm of Geikiku. They help participants discover new aspects of the theatre and feel closer to its inner workings. Feel free to ask questions during the tour.
