The Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (Location: Toshima-ku, Tokyo) will hold the "Tokyo Borderless Theatre Project 2026" in August and September 2026, aiming to create a safe space for exchange and creation through theatre for people with diverse cultural backgrounds and roots overseas.
This time, the project will focus on how participants have changed to fit in with their surroundings, how they can be themselves, and events that make them realize their gradual changes in their lives in Japan. Participants with roots overseas will share their experiences living in Japan during the workshops.
The program will conclude with a small theatrical performance based on the theme of "Changing Selves."

"Tokyo Borderless Theatre Project" (TBTP)
Since 2023, the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre has been developing theatre programs and nurturing human resources for a multicultural society as part of the Arts Council Tokyo Creative Wellbeing Tokyo Partner Program "Model Development for Programs and Human Resource Development for a Multicultural Society" (Organized by: Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Arts Council Tokyo), in collaboration with diverse individuals including foreign residents and people with roots overseas.
In 2024, the "Tokyo Borderless Theatre Project" (TBTP) was launched as a creative training program to develop theatre from intercultural dialogue, and in 2025, we produced a theatre piece as a work-in-progress through theatrical creation with foreign residents.
