Rent Co., Ltd. (Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Pref.; Representative Director: Akira Okada), a comprehensive rental company for industrial and construction machinery, has announced that it will begin renting the 'Sky Shield Sensor,' a safety auxiliary device co-developed with Kinden Corp. to prevent contact accidents during high-altitude work, starting in August 2026.
Background of Development One of the major accidents associated with aerial work platforms is the entrapment of workers between the platform and ceilings or other structures. Conventionally, poles with contact-type sensors were installed on buckets to trigger alarms, but this often led to damage to both the structures and the sensors. Addressing these issues, Kinden and Rent developed an 'Upper Detection Warning Sensor' in 2022 that detects obstacles without contact. While this eliminated the risk of equipment damage, the companies made further improvements to practical aspects such as volume and power supply, resulting in the release of the new 'Sky Shield Sensor.'
Features and Expected Effects - Improved Safety: Detects obstacles while the platform is rising and provides audio and visual alerts, complementing worker safety checks to prevent entrapment accidents. - Maintenance of Operational Efficiency: Unlike traditional methods, it does not require poles at the corners of the bucket. The compact sensor can be easily attached to handrails using magnets or brackets, allowing work to continue without interference. - Enhanced Usability: Refined based on field needs, including improved grip, volume control, better visibility of power-on status, and the use of rechargeable batteries.
Product Overview - Detection Distance: Adjustable in three levels (1300mm, 1000mm, 500mm from handrail). - Audio Control: Volume is adjustable and alert sounds are selectable to distinguish devices in multi-unit environments. Max volume: 95dB. - Mounting: Magnet/Bracket options. - Dimensions: 96mm (W) x 136mm (H) x 118mm (D). - Weight: Approx. 600g. - Water Resistance: IPX4 equivalent. - NETIS Registration No.: KT-240163-A. - Power Source: 4 x AA batteries (rechargeable NiMH or alkaline).
Exhibition at JECA FAIR 2026 The product will be showcased at the 74th JECA FAIR 2026. Dates: May 27-29, 2026 (10:00-17:00, 16:30 on the final day). Location: Tokyo Big Sight, East Exhibition Halls 1-3, Booth: 3-18. Organizer: Japan Electrical Construction Association.
