Rent Co., Ltd. (Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City), a comprehensive rental provider of industrial and construction machinery, has jointly developed the 'EG Guide'—a crane load rope control device—with Kajima Kogyo Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Toshima Ward, Tokyo; President: Tadahiro Kawada). Rental services are scheduled to commence in August 2026.

Background of EG Guide Development

In crane lifting operations during bridge construction or steel frame erection, workers manually control ropes to suppress rotation and swinging of suspended loads and prevent contact with nearby structures. However, sudden strong winds can increase load swing, making manual control difficult and increasing risks such as physical strain, falls, and workplace accidents.

Manual Rope Control Operations

To address these challenges, Kajima Kogyo developed the 'EG Guide', a mechanical device that maintains optimal rope tension to stabilize load positioning. Together with Rent, the trolley unit was further improved to enhance mobility and practicality across diverse construction sites, leading to this product launch.

Rope Control Operation Using Two EG Guide Units

Key Features and Expected Benefits

The device maintains and deploys rope tension mechanically, ensuring optimal tension and achieving the following operational improvements:

Enhanced Safety and Reduced Workload The EG Guide provides stable control with a maximum braking force of 7.5 kN, improving safety. - Shifts primary responsibility from manual rope control to mechanical tension adjustment and monitoring, reducing worker burden - Eliminates risks of falls or tripping caused by workers being pulled by ropes - Enables remote operation from a safe distance, improving working conditions

Strong and Reliable Braking for Stable Load Positioning

Manual rope control relies on workers’ experience and intuition, increasing the risk of delayed response or inadequate braking. The EG Guide suppresses load swing, maintains stable positioning, and prevents contact with nearby objects. Typical operating rope tension is only about 1% of the load weight, minimizing impact on crane hoisting and slewing operations.

Product Overview

- Product Name: Self-Propelled Crane Load Rope Control Device / EG Guide - Maximum Tension Capacity: 7.5 kN - Rope Length: Up to 50 m (effective length: 46 m) - Functions: Rope tension adjustment, payout stop, retraction - NETIS Registration Number: KK-230025-A (upper unit) - Dimensions: 995 mm (W) × 2,082 mm (L) × 1,091 mm (H) - Weight: 1,920 kg

EG Guide Device Configuration

Operating Procedure 1) Install the EG Guide in a location free from rope control obstructions. 2) Pull out the rope and connect it to the load. 3) Perform lifting operations while adjusting tension using the manual lever. 4) Stop rope payout to maintain the load’s stationary position. 5) Disconnect the rope from the load and rewind it onto the drum.

Exhibition at Maintenance & Resilience

The product will be exhibited at the Maintenance & Resilience: Infrastructure Inspection, Maintenance, and Renewal Exhibition. Please visit to see the actual unit.
