Q1 2026 (January-March) Sales Estimates Announced: Music Software and Music Distribution Sales Estimated at 99.2 Billion Yen, 106% Year-on-Year

We are pleased to announce the sales estimates for music software and music distribution for the first quarter of 2026 (January-March). These sales estimates are statistical data indicating the overall trends of the domestic record market, calculated by adding the reported results of RIAJ member companies to estimated values for non-member companies based on the market share of member companies.

For the first quarter of 2026, the estimated domestic sales of music software and music distribution totaled 99.2 billion yen, 106% of the same period last year. Of this, music distribution grew steadily to 46.4 billion yen, 114% of the previous year. Within music distribution, streaming accounted for 43.4 billion yen, representing 93% of total music distribution sales.

The Association has started publishing new "Music Software and Music Distribution Sales Estimates" with the aim of gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the domestic record market size. The first release covered the full year of 2025 (January-December), and subsequent releases will be made quarterly.

*1 Production Results: Quantity and amount of music software products (CDs, analog records, music DVDs/BDs, etc.) manufactured by member companies. *2 Net Shipment Results: Quantity and amount of music software products (CDs, analog records, music DVDs/BDs, etc.) shipped to retailers (after deducting returns). The IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) compiles and publishes statistics based on net shipment results.
