SBI Ikiki Short-Term Insurance Co., Ltd. conducted a comprehensive survey on 'End-of-Life Planning (Shukatsu) and Funerals' targeting 1,012 men and women aged 50 and older nationwide.

### Key Findings

**1. Gap Between Awareness and Action** While approximately 80% of respondents recognize the necessity of end-of-life planning, only about one in three (33%) has actually started. The primary motivation is 'not wanting to trouble family members' (79.8%).

**2. Focus on Decluttering** 'Sorting and decluttering belongings' ranked first both in 'actions already taken' and 'items of concern.' Among those who performed decluttering, about 70% did so alone, with only 1.3% utilizing professional services.

**3. Shifting Funeral Costs and Formats** While the most common actual expense for funerals was between 510,000 and 1,000,000 JPY, over 80% of respondents desire their own funeral to cost under 1,000,000 JPY. Preference for 'Family Funerals' (53.4%) significantly outweighed 'General Funerals' (10.2%).

**4. Diversification of Burial Methods** Although 72.9% of actual burials still occur in ancestral graves, over half of respondents expressed interest in 'modern burials' such as tree burials, ossuaries, and maritime scatterings.
