Science Arts Inc. has announced that Kobe Steel, Ltd. (Kobe Steel) has implemented 'Buddycom,' a live communication platform for frontline workers, at its Kakogawa Works.
Kobe Steel is flexibly utilizing Buddycom to suit the varying site environments and operational processes of its different departments. Across its 5.7 million square meter site—one of the largest in Japan—the platform enables real-time voice coordination and location visualization, contributing to improved communication and advanced safety management.
The implementation addresses challenges stemming from the company's diversified business operations. Departments such as Ironmaking and Equipment have many employees working alone across expansive yards. Previously, communication relied on phone and email, causing delays and psychological barriers to reporting, while public broadcasts were difficult to hear outdoors. Accurately locating staff also posed significant safety challenges.
With Buddycom, information sharing, such as task completion reports, has become more active. The smartphone's 'forced activation function' ensures that critical information, such as weather updates, is received even in noisy outdoor environments. Furthermore, real-time location sharing allows managers to immediately grasp site conditions, significantly improving staff peace of mind and safety.
Moving forward, Kobe Steel plans to utilize features such as one-tap safety alerts and expand the platform to other departments and locations, aiming to improve operational efficiency across the entire group.
