Sumitomo Heavy Industries Opens 'Semiconductor Subsystems and Components R&D Center' in San Jose, USA

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Toshiaki Watanabe; hereafter referred to as "the Company") has opened the Semiconductor Subsystems and Components R&D Center (hereafter "the Center") in May 2026 at the San Jose office of Sumitomo Cryogenics of America, Inc. (Head office: Pennsylvania, USA; CEO: Mark Delakshan).

Purpose of Establishing the Center

The Company is focusing its investment on "semiconductor" and "robotics/automation" fields to strengthen its competitive edge.

The Center was established as a base to promote co-creation and collaboration with US semiconductor equipment manufacturers and research institutions (hereafter "US Partners") in the areas of precision stages, motion components, and robotics technology. Through co-creation with US Partners, the Company aims to advance technologies for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing equipment, expand application areas, achieve early resolution of customer issues, strengthen partnerships, and create new business opportunities.

Overview of the Center

The Center is an R&D facility equipped with a low-vibration cleanroom. By providing the cleanroom cleanliness and low-vibration environment required for evaluating the performance of precision stages and robotics, the Center can conduct highly advanced technical verification necessary for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing equipment, such as nanometer-level positioning evaluation and dynamic characteristics analysis. This enables product development and evaluation in collaboration with US Partners.
