ENNE ZERO is a new mobility vehicle that solves the three major challenges of specified small mopeds: "hill-climbing ability," "cruising range," and "running out of battery." Furthermore, with a 1:5 assist ratio, it is designed to be used as an alternative to electric assist bicycles.
ENNE ZERO is the only vehicle that can be ridden without a license using both a throttle and pedals.
Because specified small mopeds have a restriction that they must not exceed 20 km/h, adding pedals presented considerable technical difficulties. However, the convenience of having drive pedals is immeasurable, and it is no exaggeration to say we have successfully solved the three major challenges facing all specified mopeds currently on the market.
Technical Challenges Solved by ENNE ZERO
The pedals on the ENNE ZERO are not an input device for generating electricity. They are designed as a mechanism for riding, where **the force of human pedaling is directly used to drive the wheels**.
The key to establishing this configuration as a specified moped is how to enforce the 20 km/h upper limit on a drivetrain with riding pedals. To address this challenge, ENNE ZERO was developed with a policy of simultaneously designing the vehicle structure and control logic.
In this iteration of ENNE ZERO's specifications, **dynamic braking** is adopted as one of the core technologies supporting the 20 km/h upper limit control.
What our company emphasized was not leaving speed management solely to the motor output side. Because a driving pedal structure adds human-powered propulsion, the design of the speed limit must be established including control on the braking side. Based on this concept, ENNE ZERO adopted a vehicle design incorporating a dynamic brake. The dynamic brake in ENNE ZERO is a type of electromagnetic brake. It provides natural speed suppression at 20 km/h with a smooth sensation. Of course, it is not an unpleasant mechanism that suddenly hits hard.
The dynamic brake control is handled by the AI embedded in the ENNE ZERO system. The AI plays the following roles:
- Comprehensively judges vehicle speed, pedal rotation, driving status, and power status. - Calculates the amount of control necessary to maintain the 20 km/h upper limit. - Optimizes the intervention amount of the dynamic brake. - When the power is off, it initiates a wake-up function triggered by motion detection to start necessary systems. - Maintains the control state of functions required to comply with safety standards.
Through the work of this AI, it senses the intention and strength of acceleration, calculates the optimal braking force, and performs smooth speed suppression. While the term "applying brakes" might suggest deceleration, strictly speaking, it acts more like an acceleration suppression device. With the leg strength of a typical rider, it releases almost instantly, so there is practically no actual drop in vehicle speed.
