Survey: Approximately 80% of Company Employees Increase Alcohol Consumption in April Due to Stress from Workplace Changes; Doctors Recommend Countermeasures.

Shizen Shokken Co., Ltd. (located in Bungotakada City, Oita Prefecture, Representative: Kohei Sasaki) conducted a survey on "New Lifestyle Stress x Drinking" targeting (1) company employees aged 20-50 with drinking habits who experienced significant workplace changes and stress in April, and (2) internal medicine and gastroenterology physicians. The survey period was March 25-26, 2026, conducted via internet by PRIZMA, with 1,006 respondents (504 employees / 502 physicians). The survey revealed that the primary cause of stress from April workplace changes was "learning new tasks / taking over existing tasks" (62.1%), followed by "building relationships with new people (new superiors, new colleagues, etc.)" (60.7%), and "guiding / supporting new employees or juniors" (30.2%). Approximately 80% (75.8%) of respondents stated that their alcohol consumption increased in April (26.0% "very much increase", 49.8% "somewhat increase") to relieve stress associated with workplace changes. The survey also indicated that about half of workplaces (45.6%) plan welcome parties in April, with about 80% (including 31.8% "under consideration") tending to provide opportunities for internal interaction.
