SMFL Mirai Partners Co., Ltd., a strategic subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing Co., Ltd. (SMFL), announced that it will participate in a grid-scale battery storage project in Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture, in collaboration with SPARX Group Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary, SPARX Green Energy & Technology Co., Ltd. By connecting grid-scale batteries directly to the power transmission and distribution network and charging/discharging according to the time of day, the project will serve as an adjustment function to stably supply renewable energy, which fluctuates in generation depending on weather and time, thereby contributing to the stabilization of the power grid and the expansion of renewable energy introduction. SMFL Mirai Partners aims to reach a cumulative total of 1GW in battery storage projects by fiscal year 2031 and will continue to further expand its battery storage business. The SMFL Group provides finance services for capital investment in renewable energy and energy-saving equipment, supplies CO2-free electricity through renewable energy businesses such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, and offers subsidy support services related to decarbonization.
