Soei Seminar (Soei Corporation) conducted a survey targeting students and their guardians regarding parental participation in university entrance ceremonies. In recent years, the sight of parents and students attending university entrance ceremonies together has become increasingly noticeable. Indeed, in the past, parental participation in university entrance ceremonies was sometimes perceived by the parent generation as 'somewhat unusual' or 'appearing a bit overprotective' from their own student days. However, in recent years, the presence of parents and students at these ceremonies has become more common, suggesting a potential shift in values from the past.

Therefore, Soei Seminar conducted a survey asking students starting university life in April and their guardians how they perceive parental participation in university entrance ceremonies.

The survey revealed that approximately 80% of high school students responded that 'it is acceptable for parents to attend the university entrance ceremony,' and furthermore, 90% believe that 'joint participation by parents and students is common or somewhat common.' Parents also showed a high response rate, with approximately 90% stating 'they want to participate or it is acceptable to participate.' This indicates that university entrance ceremonies are increasingly being recognized as an 'event for families to share milestones.'

87.7% of High School Students Feel 'Happy' About Parental Attendance; 'Embarrassment' is a Minority View When asked, 'What do you think about attending your university's entrance ceremony with your parents?', ・'I think it would be happy' 49.6% ・'I think it would be rather happy' 38.1% This means a total of 87.7% responded positively.

On the other hand, ・'It would be rather embarrassing' 10.9% ・'It would be embarrassing' 1.5% This shows that the view of 'parents attending is embarrassing' is held by a minority.
