SPACECOOL Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Masahiro Suemitsu) announced that "Innovation Proof RR" (hereinafter "SC Sheet," sold by Lonseal Corporation), a waterproof sheet integrated with the radiative cooling material "SPACECOOL" developed by the company, has been installed in two elementary schools (School A and School B) in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo.
In recent years, the educational environment has faced severe challenges due to extreme summer heat, including risks of heat stroke and decreased student concentration. By implementing "SPACECOOL," which cools spaces with zero energy, the company aims to suppress temperature rises in gymnasiums and school buildings, thereby contributing to more comfortable educational environments.
Installation Results: School A (Gymnasium Roof): During daytime hours (10:00–16:00) after installation, indoor temperatures were reduced by an average of 3.4°C compared to pre-installation levels. No air conditioning was used during the measurement period. School B (School Building Rooftop): A maximum temperature reduction of approximately 15°C was confirmed in installed areas compared to non-installed areas.
According to comments from the Setagaya Ward Board of Education, the gymnasium has become much cooler, creating an environment where children can exercise comfortably. Installation in other schools within the ward has already been decided, and significant benefits are expected.
"SPACECOOL" is a new material that achieves zero-energy cooling by blocking sunlight and releasing heat as infrared radiation into the "atmospheric window" of space.
