The Changhua County Government held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 9th for the demolition and reconstruction of the Ren'ai and Xinyi buildings at Lukang Elementary School, presided over by County Magistrate Wang Hui-mei. Magistrate Wang stated that both buildings are over 50 years old and, despite several renovations, have developed cracks in their main structures and beams, along with water leakage, compromising safety. With support from Council Speaker Hsieh Tien-lin and all councilors, the county government has allocated a self-funded budget of NT$151.9 million for the reconstruction project, scheduled for completion by mid-2028. The project will deliver 12 new classrooms, creating a safe, comfortable, and modern educational environment that meets contemporary learning needs, enabling children to study with peace of mind and grow happily.

Magistrate Wang explained that the new three-story building will incorporate elements of 'Lukang's harbor culture,' with a white wave-like exterior design symbolizing the spirit of 'riding the waves and moving forward fearlessly.' This reflects Changhua County's determination to advance modern education and cultivate talent proactively. In recent years, the county government has invested nearly NT$20 million in the school for facilities such as a themed playground, campus drainage systems, electrical upgrades, an English International Village, golf training equipment, and drone programs, comprehensively enhancing educational quality and ensuring students remain at the forefront of innovation.

Magistrate Wang also commended the principal and all teaching staff for their dedication. Lukang Elementary has actively promoted maker education, achieving outstanding results: winning a silver medal at the World Youth Maker Invention Awards, earning top honors at the National Taiwanese Language Drama Competition, and securing a silver medal in the county-level SCRATCH Programming Contest (Animation Division for elementary schools), qualifying to represent the county in the national 'Cat Cup' Programming Competition. The school has also excelled in orchestral music, track and field, and soccer, demonstrating a well-rounded balance of academic and athletic excellence.

Councilor Shih Pei-yu, speaking on behalf of the council, praised Magistrate Wang's administration for its long-term commitment to campus development, emphasizing systematic assessments of school needs and maximizing limited budgets to accelerate improvements in school facilities and educational environments. Lukang Township Mayor Hsu Chih-hung noted that Lukang Elementary is a historically significant school, and the two buildings hold cherished memories for local residents and alumni. He expressed hope that the new construction will provide students with a superior learning environment.

Lukang Elementary Principal Lung Tung-hu expressed gratitude to Magistrate Wang, the county government team, and all councilors for their budgetary support. He emphasized the school's commitment to continuing the legacy of the Ren'ai and Xinyi buildings by optimizing the campus environment and nurturing more top-tier talent from Lukang. The Department of Education reiterated that the county government steadfastly upholds the principle of 'investing in education is investing in the future,' continuously advancing school renovations, improving campus environments, and upgrading teaching facilities to create safe, high-quality, and forward-looking learning spaces. Going forward, the county will continue integrating educational resources and completing campus infrastructure projects, supporting children to learn safely, develop according to their aptitudes, and embrace a brighter, more fulfilling future.
