In response to the impending arrival of Typhoon Bavi, the Kaohsiung City Government's Mass Rapid Transit Engineering Bureau has, starting this week, fully advanced the preparation for typhoon prevention and site inspection work. The inspection scope covers various engineering sections of the MRT Yellow Line, the YM01 Birdsong Factory, as well as major engineering projects such as the Gangshan Lucan Extension Line and the Xiaogang Linyuan Line, thoroughly checking the flood prevention and disaster prevention readiness of each construction site to ensure full flood and disaster prevention capabilities. All site supervisors are fully mobilized, adopting a 'divided and concurrent' approach. The MRT Bureau stated that to accurately grasp the protective conditions of each project in the shortest time, Bureau Director Wu Jia-chang went to the Gangshan Lucan Extension Line this morning (9th) to require the general contractor team to check each construction site's drainage, fence reinforcement, and whether disaster prevention equipment and tools are fully equipped. At the same time, all site supervisors within the bureau are fully mobilized, adopting a 'divided and concurrent' approach, conducting thorough inspections of all MRT construction sites, including the Yellow Line projects and factories, to fully guard the MRT construction and surrounding safety. In response to typhoon preparation, it is specially required that construction sites strictly implement protective preparations and pre-deploy disaster prevention construction equipment to ensure mobile rescue capabilities. In terms of flood prevention and drainage, in addition to fully checking the surrounding drainage system and ensuring that water pumps and generators have sufficient and normally operating fuel, sandbags and water-stopping facilities are prepared at low-lying and easily flooded points to strictly prevent mud and water from overflowing due to heavy rain. In terms of construction site safety, fences and New Jersey barriers are fully strengthened and tested for stability to prevent displacement, and construction equipment, steel structure materials, and high-altitude items are securely tied and fixed to avoid the risk of falling due to strong winds. To ensure the safety of public passage, if potholes or damage appear on the roads around the construction sites, personnel will be immediately dispatched for emergency repair and backfilling; solar warning lights, flashing lights, and other night safety facilities have been fully inspected and replaced to ensure the warning effect around the construction sites before and after the typhoon, maintaining smooth urban drainage, smooth traffic, and clean city appearance. Typhoon prevention work for the MRT joint development project is also being prepared simultaneously. O4 Qianjin Station, R20 Houjin Station, RK1 Gangshan Station, and Y10 Base have completed all typhoon and disaster prevention preparations. Each construction site has completed the inspection of construction equipment and fences, strengthened the binding and fixing, and fully strengthened the protective measures for construction openings and temporary fences. For areas prone to water accumulation, low-lying areas are pre-constructed with water-stopping embankments to reduce the backflow of rainwater; and diesel generators, fuel, and mobile water pumps are prepared to enhance the flood prevention and response capabilities of the construction sites. The Kaohsiung Light Rail, a public transportation system, has also fully completed all typhoon prevention preparation work, strengthening inspections, drills, and response deployments for trains, stations, tracks, and facilities along the line, including securing light rail trains to prevent strong wind movement, properly folding transfer sunshades, and reinforcing the support of light rail rain bean trees and small-leaf olive trees to ensure the safety and stability of the Kaohsiung Light Rail system. The MRT Bureau emphasizes that typhoon work cannot be neglected in any way, and will adhere to the highest safety standards to supervise the new construction of MRT, MRT joint development projects, and Kaohsiung Light Rail, implement typhoon response measures, and adjust inspection frequencies in a rolling manner according to typhoon dynamics. The MRT Bureau reminds road users that during the typhoon period, citizens who pass by the MRT construction sites are requested to pay attention to the road conditions and drive slowly.
