Akio Yorita, Executive Director of the Indo-Pacific Strategy Institute and a media personality, was violently attacked in Taichung on the 6th. Prosecutors and police arrested the suspect, Liao Kong-fat, and revealed he is a Hong Kong national born in mainland China. The incident is believed to be a premeditated, cross-border assault carried out for payment. In response, the Taipei-based Xinmin Cross-Strait Research Association held a press conference on the 9th to express solidarity. Robert Tsao, founder of United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), attended and angrily declared, 'The Chinese Communist Party is despicable. This kind of behavior is contemptible—it’s the action of a reptilian society!'

The Xinmin Association hosted a press conference titled 'The Attack on Akio Yorita: Condemning the CCP's Cross-Border Violence and Calling for a Review of the Hong Kong-Macau Relations Act,' attended by Yorita, Tsao, and Shen Po-yang, DPP candidate for Taipei mayor. Yorita pointed out that he had no prior connection with the assailant, yet the suspect traveled all the way to Taiwan 'just to punch me.' The Mainland Affairs Council of China dismissed the act as stemming from 'righteous indignation,' a justification Yorita called logically indefensible.

Yorita described such suspects as 'flash enforcers'—individuals who quickly enter a country, commit a crime, and then flee. The real masterminds remain hidden behind the scenes. If this model succeeds in Taiwan, it will be replicated again and again. 'Today it was me who was attacked,' he warned, 'but tomorrow it could be another journalist, scholar, politician, or any ordinary person brave enough to speak out publicly.'

Yorita emphasized that Hong Kong's experience shows how freedom of speech is gradually eroded through repeated acts of violence and threats. 'If we remain silent in the face of violence, it will only escalate. Only when more people stand up can democracy and freedom be preserved,' he urged.

Tsao stressed that this incident must not be treated as an isolated case or merely as an assault charge. He cited the 2020 incident where Lam Wing-kee, owner of the Causeway Bay Books, was splashed with red paint—perpetrators were only charged with assault. If such actions go unchecked, he warned, the CCP's behavior will escalate further.

Tsao directly addressed the Mainland Affairs Council and the CCP: 'I want to say clearly—this behavior is despicable, contemptible, and characteristic of a reptilian society.' He condemned the CCP for bullying the weak, disrespecting law and human rights, and suppressing freedom of speech, publication, and thought. 'They attack those they can bully and flee from those they cannot,' he said.

Tsao criticized the Communist Party for creating a 'reptilian society.' While it proclaims the 'great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation' and claims 'Taiwan is our territory,' Taiwan, he said, has already evolved into a 'bird society'—a free and democratic space where people can fly freely, without territorialism. 'We don’t need to seize others’ territory; we can build nests in any tree around the world,' he declared. 'All Chinese people worldwide must understand: the Chinese Communist Party will not lead you to rejuvenation. It will only turn you into reptiles!'
