The Kaohsiung City Government is collaborating with luxury hotels to create a new model of distinctive tourism, integrating local agricultural products, gourmet cuisine, and stray animal adoption. This initiative transforms accommodations from mere lodging spaces into vital platforms for promoting Kaohsiung’s unique characteristics and urban warmth.
Hanpin Kaohsiung Hotel has partnered with the Kaohsiung City Agriculture Bureau to incorporate high-quality local agricultural products into dining, accommodation, and souvenirs. Meanwhile, Hotel Indigo Kaohsiung Central Park has teamed up with the Animal Protection Office to launch the 'Travel Cat Adoption Program,' where rescued cats serve as 'front desk duty managers,' greeting guests with their adorable presence and promoting the message of 'adopt, don’t abandon.' This highlights Kaohsiung’s charm as a city of culinary delights, human connection, and animal-friendly values.
In recent years, Hanpin Hotel has actively responded to green and friendly dining policies, prioritizing locally sourced agricultural and seafood products from Kaohsiung. Working with the Agriculture Bureau, the hotel has developed a series of creative dishes highlighting regional characteristics. The chef has crafted seasonal summer menus using ingredients such as honey from longan trees in A-Lian, plum products from Jiaxian, aged radish pickles from Meinong, bitter melon from Shanlin, peaches from Namasia, loofah from Dashe, and onions from Linyuan—bringing the flavors and terroir of Kaohsiung directly to the dining table and allowing travelers to experience the city through their taste buds.
Beyond dining, Hanpin Hotel extends local agriculture into the guest experience. The hotel offers welcome gifts made from Meinong’s white jade radish pickle and features a souvenir section selling agricultural cooperative products such as Meinong rice, dried fruits from A-Lian, and Jiaxian plum products. This creates a seamless 'experience, learn, purchase' model, enabling domestic and international visitors to bring the authentic taste of Kaohsiung back home.
On the other hand, Hotel Indigo Kaohsiung Central Park has partnered with the Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office to launch the 'Purrfect Match: Hotel Indigo City Encounter Program.' Cats from the Animal Care Zone serve as 'front desk duty managers,' welcoming guests with their friendly and affectionate demeanor. This initiative has successfully raised public awareness of pet adoption, with five 'travel cats' already finding loving new homes. It stands as a successful example of corporate involvement in animal welfare.
The Kaohsiung City Agriculture Bureau emphasized that promoting local agriculture and pet adoption aims to leverage the hospitality industry to integrate Kaohsiung’s unique identity and sustainability values into travelers’ experiences. Going forward, the bureau will continue collaborating with more enterprises to deepen partnerships between agriculture, tourism, and public welfare. The goal is to build a tourism city that combines gourmet food, culture, ecology, and animal friendliness—ensuring that visitors from around the world not only savor the richness of the land but also feel the city’s warmest human touch.
