KMT legislator Wan Meiling's son, Taoyuan City Council candidate Xi Guangyang, has been embroiled in controversy over past bullying allegations. Xi publicly responded and apologized on the 6th, admitting to behaviors such as gluing a classmate's hair with white adhesive, giving offensive nicknames, asking a delivery worker if they had been in an accident, pushing an autistic classmate, and involvement in gambling during high school. He expressed remorse to those affected and the public, but calls for his withdrawal from the election persist.
In response, Wan Meiling appeared on the program 'Qianqiu Wan Shi' on the 9th, strongly denying online claims that she used political privilege to pressure schools or manipulate academic results. She emphasized that allegations of her intervening to force a class-wide re-exam were completely false and absurd, questioning how such a scenario could be logistically possible for dozens of students.
Regarding accusations that her son avoided military service through privilege, Wan confirmed that Xi Guangyang had struggled with obesity since childhood. During his military conscription physical examination, he weighed 120 kilograms. Despite efforts to lose weight, he remained above 110 kilograms, rendering him medically unfit for military service. Wan acknowledged that the military service issue has become a political attack point but expressed concern over the increasingly extreme and uncontrolled nature of online discourse.
Wan stated that upon learning of the bullying allegations in March and April, she immediately confronted her son with strict discipline. Although some incidents dated back to when Xi was five years old in kindergarten, she urged him to recall the events and consulted former teachers and parents. While Xi did not remember all details, he acknowledged having disregarded others' feelings and accepted responsibility, issuing apologies.
Wan reiterated her parenting principle: 'When my child does something wrong, I believe in strict guidance.' She dismissed further online rumors, including claims that she had influenced her son's college entrance exam results, calling them baseless and overwhelming. She noted that while she expected scrutiny over the military service exemption, the current online narrative has spiraled out of control.
