Typhoon Bavi is approaching northern Taiwan, with the most intense effects expected on the 10th. Northern counties and cities including Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan have announced work and school suspensions for the 10th. However, many may find the weather quite pleasant during the morning of the 10th. Why was a typhoon alert issued?
Hsieh Pei-yun, Technical Specialist at the Central Weather Bureau's Forecast Center, stated that the primary wind and rain impacts on the 10th will be concentrated in central and northern Taiwan, Yilan, Matsu, and outlying islands. Starting in the afternoon of the 10th, especially from the evening of the 10th into the 11th, central and northern Taiwan and Yilan must remain vigilant against strong winds and torrential rain. Rainfall in northern areas will be very intense, with heavy rain or above expected in central Taiwan and Yilan as well.
Southern Taiwan and the Hualien-Taitung region will experience less severe conditions compared to the north, but strong winds and heavy rain are still expected due to the typhoon’s vast size. The entire island will feel the effects of wind and rain, and the public is urged to prepare for typhoon safety measures.
