On a warm summer evening, the Hsinfeng Township Office hosted its 2026 Family Movie Night on the evening of the 17th, drawing numerous parents and children. Invited by Hsinfeng Township Mayor Hsu Wei-Chieh, Kuomintang (KMT) Hsinchu County magistrate candidate and legislator Hsu Hsin-Ying returned to her alma mater, Shanqi Elementary School. Hsu expressed deep warmth upon returning to her school and highlighted that Hsinchu County is experiencing a reversal of declining birth rates. To help alleviate the parenting burden on young families, she proposed expanding specialized classes for two-year-olds, increasing public and non-profit kindergarten slots, and implementing a 'one tablet per student' policy in elementary and secondary schools, positioning technology as the best learning tool for children.
During her speech, Hsu said seeing so many younger students and parents at her alma mater filled her with warmth and emotion. She expressed gratitude to Mayor Hsu Wei-Chieh and the township council for their dedication in organizing such a wonderful community event. Reflecting on her childhood, Hsu shared heartfelt memories of stargazing on the rooftop of her family home in Hsinfeng, dreaming of flying to space and exploring the universe with NASA. Though she later chose to stay in her beloved hometown of Hsinchu County to care for her ailing family, she emphasized that the spirit of gazing at the stars and daring to dream has warmed her throughout her life.
'In every child’s sparkling eyes lies a great dream,' Hsu declared, stressing that adults have a responsibility to build a 'safe runway' so children’s talents and dreams can soar. To support hardworking 'sandwich generation' parents, Hsu proposed policies including expanding specialized classes for two-year-olds, increasing public and non-profit kindergarten capacity, and establishing temporary childcare systems to eliminate the anxiety of waiting lists and lottery-based admissions. She advocated for 'one tablet per student' in elementary and middle schools, promoting AI education and making technology the best learning companion for children. Additionally, she emphasized using technology to streamline administrative tasks, returning teachers’ time to students. She also pledged to continue advocating for budgets to support pediatric healthcare, special education, parent-child spaces, and campus safety, ensuring children in every township have access to balanced resources.
'Ai (Love) in Hsinchu County—where every dream comes true!' Hsu expressed her hope that through collaboration between central and local governments, Hsinchu County’s parenting and education environment will continue to improve, allowing every young seed in the county to grow into a 'giant' capable of achieving great dreams.
