After Typhoon Bawi, a large amount of marine debris was washed up on the coast of Taoyuan. The Taoyuan Environmental Protection Bureau, in collaboration with coastal adoption enterprises, carried out post-disaster cleanup. Deputy Mayor Su Junbin also joined volunteers to collect plastic waste and discarded fishing gear. About 100 volunteers participated in the cleanup activity, collecting over 200 kilograms of waste and recyclables. Su Junbin created the land art work 'Regeneration: Light Gatherers' through this activity to express gratitude to the volunteers. Su Junbin mentioned that this year's land art festival was created specifically to honor the beach cleaners. He was surprised by the beauty and diversity of Taoyuan's coast and expressed his gratitude for the volunteers' contributions. Su Junbin reported that last year, 51,338 volunteers participated in the cleanup of Taoyuan's coast, collecting 466.07 tons of waste. He also emphasized that a 26-kilometer stretch of Taoyuan's coast is adopted by local enterprises and regularly cleaned. Su Junbin believes that the story of land art is not only about beautiful natural environments but also about the most beautiful and valuable stories between people and land. He was moved by the volunteers who regularly maintain the coast using their holidays, physical strength, and sunscreen, and wanted to express his gratitude to them through this work. Su Junbin distributed hand-drawn postcards of this work to the volunteers as a testament to their cooperation in protecting the coast. Artists Qiu Jiesen and Moran also expressed their gratitude to the unsung heroes who contribute to environmental protection through this work.
