The Archives Administration under Taiwan's National Development Council recently released the full contents of the 'Campus Security Enhancement Project' online. Among the documents, it was discovered that incumbent Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che had once served as an informant. Huang responded by calling it 'old news.'
However, today (19th), during the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) national congress, as Huang queued to vote for the Central Executive Committee, he appeared notably low-key compared to other county and city mayors, legislators, and councilors who chatted and socialized. While others engaged in conversation, Huang stood silently at the very front of the voting line, not speaking to any fellow party officials.
Immediately after DPP Chairperson Lai Qing-te left the voting venue, Huang entered, cast his vote, and quietly proceeded to a meeting room on another floor.
The DPP held its national congress today. After the general assembly concluded at 3:00 PM, voting for the Central Executive Committee and Central Review Committee began. 593 party delegates formed a long queue outside the voting hall. During the wait, many party officials grouped together in line—Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Lai Jui-long from the New Tide faction and Taichung Mayor Ho Hsin-chun, for example, stood together, exchanging views. Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang was warmly welcomed by multiple delegates, with many rushing to take photos with him.
In contrast, Huang Wei-che waited alone and quietly at the very front of the queue near the entrance. After voting, he quietly left and walked into a meeting room on another floor.

In fact, Huang was previously reported by the media in 2022 as possibly having been an informant. With the recent release of archival documents, Associate Professor Shen Jung-chin from York University in Canada posted online that these files confirm Huang and others acted as 'snitches' during their student years. Shen stated that Huang will likely face intense criticism and that his political career may end with his tenure as Tainan mayor. The greatest harm, Shen added, lies in the widening gap in Taiwan's societal understanding of justice and fairness, which could become a future obstacle.
