Dr. Lan Yi-hua, Director of the German Economic Office, led a delegation on July 16 comprising representatives from German firms SUSS MicroTec and ZEISS Taiwan—both operating factories in Hsinchu County—to visit Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke and engage in discussions with relevant county officials. Magistrate Yang expressed gratitude for the deep-rooted presence of German enterprises in Taiwan and their support for Hsinchu County’s industrial development. He affirmed the county government’s commitment to listening to corporate feedback, meeting their needs, and cultivating a more attractive investment environment and quality living ecosystem to draw high-caliber international businesses to Hsinchu County—thereby increasing employment opportunities and driving local prosperity.
Magistrate Yang highlighted that Germany remains one of Taiwan’s most important economic and trade partners in Europe, with ongoing collaboration in semiconductors, optoelectronics, machinery, and ICT sectors. As a key hub for Taiwan’s high-tech industry, Hsinchu County boasts a complete semiconductor supply chain, a strong talent pool, and a mature industrial ecosystem. In recent years, the county government has actively laid the foundation for future industrial growth by establishing an AI Smart Park, anticipating global technological trends, and advancing the Science Park III (Ke-San) and Taiwan Knowledge Industry Park (Tai-Zhi) projects to secure land for sustained technological leadership.
Dr. Lan emphasized that Germany and Taiwan have built a robust, trust-based economic partnership over the years. As the core of Taiwan’s high-tech and semiconductor innovation, Hsinchu County plays a pivotal role in this bilateral relationship. She expressed hope that this visit would further strengthen cooperation between Germany and Hsinchu County and open new avenues for future collaboration.
The German Economic Office noted that both visiting companies are flagship German enterprises. SUSS MicroTec is a leading German manufacturer of semiconductor equipment, providing advanced process solutions in wafer bonding, lithography, photomask processing, and advanced packaging. ZEISS, with over 175 years of history, is a global leader in optics and optoelectronics, operating in semiconductor manufacturing, industrial quality inspection, medical technology, and scientific research equipment—consistently supporting Taiwan’s industrial advancement through innovation.
Both companies operating in Hsinchu County submitted recommendations, including installing YouBike stations near their facilities to improve employee commuting, adding streetlights to enhance safety, increasing train frequency at Hsinchu High-Speed Rail Station, assistance in talent recruitment, and securing land for factory expansion. Magistrate Yang instructed relevant county departments to fully support these requests. Meanwhile, Tsai Hui, General Manager of ZEISS Taiwan, expressed willingness to contribute to public welfare by offering vision screening services for elderly and children in rural areas of Hsinchu County, giving back to the community.
