Taiwan's stock market opened with a volatile and downward trend today. The TAIEX opened at 42,793.15 points and gradually declined, reaching an intraday low of 41,967.75 points. As of early trading, the index stood at 42,654.17 points, down 17.10 points, or approximately 0.04%.
Among major weighted stocks, TSMC moved against the market trend with a strong gain, while other electronics giants such as Hon Hai, MediaTek, Quanta Computer, and Delta Electronics all posted losses.
On the individual stock front, several companies surged close to or reached the 10% daily limit, including Nan Wei (1467), Chang Ho (1468), Jing Lian (3652), Andes Technology (6533), Cheng Shin Industry*-Creative (6969), and Tat Weng Optoelectronics (8045).
Conversely, several stocks faced heavy selling pressure, falling over 9%: Nan Ya Plastics (1303), Chung Fu (1435), Rong Hsing (1617), United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC, 2303), Walsin Electronics (2313), Yageo Corporation* (2327), and Lingsen Precision (2369).
The sharp decline in UMC and Walsin reflects growing concerns over weakening demand and supply chain imbalances in the semiconductor sector. Meanwhile, TSMC's resilience underscores its continued dominance in global semiconductor manufacturing.
Market observers are closely watching U.S. monetary policy, exchange rate movements, and China's economic recovery, as heightened volatility is expected in the short term. Stock selection based on fundamentals and technological strength is becoming increasingly critical.
