A fatal traffic accident occurred in Anping District, Tainan City, at around 4:00 a.m. on the 21st. A 17-year-old boy, riding without a license and carrying his 17-year-old girlfriend, was heading to the Guanxi Sunset Viewing Platform to watch the sunrise. While traveling along Anbei Road near the intersection with Zhouping 1st Street, the motorcycle suddenly veered and crashed into a roadside tree, causing the vehicle to burst into flames.
Emergency personnel arrived to find both riders without breath or heartbeat. They were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival. Subsequent blood tests at the hospital revealed that the male rider's blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit.
The victims are believed to be a romantic couple. That evening, the two had set out with two friends—four people in total—on two motorcycles from Madou, first gathering in Yongkang before heading to the viewing platform for sunrise. Due to the late hour and the fact that the couple carried no identification, police were initially unable to confirm their identities. It was only when their companions realized they hadn't followed and returned to search that the victims' identities were confirmed and families notified.
The motorcycle was severely damaged at the scene, with vehicle parts and personal belongings scattered across the road. The tree showed clear signs of impact. Police confirmed the male rider had no valid license. Hospital blood tests further confirmed he had been driving under the influence. However, the precise cause and sequence of events remain under investigation, with authorities reviewing surveillance footage and vehicle evidence. The case has been referred to prosecutors for further investigation.
