Trump Media & Technology Group, the media company owned by former US President Donald Trump, is reportedly planning to sell 'real-time access to post data' from its social platform Truth Social to Wall Street financial institutions, drawing strong concern and backlash from bipartisan US senators.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the reports, calling the practice 'the textbook definition of insider trading,' while even Republican lawmakers have questioned the legality of the business plan.

According to the Financial Times, Trump Media Group is in talks with high-frequency traders and institutional investors to offer priority access to real-time API data from top-tier accounts on Truth Social—including Trump himself—for a monthly subscription fee of up to $100,000 (approximately NT$3.28 million). Trump still holds over 40% of Trump Media Group through a revocable trust, and financial disclosures show he earned at least $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency and related ventures in 2025. This new service has reignited controversy over whether President Trump is using his office for personal financial gain.

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska stated that the president should not use his position to enrich himself, saying, 'I hope he doesn’t have this idea!' Senator Thom Tillis, a frequent critic within Trump’s own party, warned that the move exploits a gray area, stating, 'Allowing third parties to receive market-moving information before the public is fundamentally inappropriate.'

Democrats are seizing on the issue as a political weapon ahead of the November midterm elections. Schumer mocked the White House in the Senate, saying, 'When Trump announces a new deal, subscribers know where to invest. When he attacks the Fed, premium users can deploy their strategies before anyone else sees it.'

Facing mounting criticism, the White House has not responded directly, leaving the matter to Trump Media Group. A company spokesperson said the Truth API merely provides a faster way to access 'publicly available' Truth Social data and sarcastically accused Schumer of 'inventing a new theory of insider trading based on public information.'

Chuck Grassley, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said if the subscription model involves any form of insider trading, it would be illegal, but added, 'I need to learn more specific details.' As the US midterm elections approach, the political storm surrounding the president’s business interests and Wall Street financial order is likely to intensify.
