The tainted oil scandal has now reached the level of personnel changes. Taiwan People's Party Chair Huang Kuo-chang revealed on a radio program today (22nd) that the Lai administration plans to remove Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director-General Chiang Chih-kang by the 24th. Meanwhile, during legislative questioning, legislator Chiu Hui-ju directly asked Health and Welfare Minister Shih Chou-liang: 'Do you think the Premier will 'deal with' you?' Shih replied: 'I don’t know' and 'I haven’t received any news about Director-General Chiang being removed.' Chiang’s own response was: 'There are still many matters to handle properly.'

Huang Kuo-chang, during a morning appearance on a web program, suddenly claimed: 'I’ve heard that they’re going to make a low-ranking official step down this Friday' and 'According to my sources, it should be the FDA Director-General.'

This morning, the Legislative Yuan’s Social Welfare and Public Health Committee invited relevant agencies to deliver a special report on 'the causes, distribution, inspections, information disclosure, risk assessment, group litigation, compensation mechanisms, administrative and legal accountability, and future improvement measures and timelines regarding carcinogenic cooking oil.' Both Shih Chou-liang and Chiang Chih-kang attended.

Kuomintang legislator Wang Yu-min, speaking on behalf of the media, asked Chiang directly: 'Will this be your last time appearing before the Legislative Yuan? Media reports say you’ll be leaving this week—true or false? Have you been informed personally?'

Shih immediately responded: 'I have not received any such information at all.' When Wang pressed further—'Did the Minister ask the Director-General to leave?'—Shih quickly replied, 'No.' Shih emphasized: 'The most important responsibility right now is ensuring public safety in cooking oil and food—this is our duty.'

Throughout the session, Chiang quietly responded with only one line: 'Honorable legislator, there are still many matters to handle properly.' He later had a lengthy private conversation with Wang during a break.
