Shinwen Media released the latest poll on Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Qi-mai's governance satisfaction, which stood at 78.5%, continuing the high support seen in recent multiple polls. Not only did Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters highly approve, but Kuomintang (KMT), Taiwan People's Party (TPP) supporters, and swing voters also had satisfaction rates exceeding 50%, showing a cross-party support trend.
According to the poll commissioned by Shinwen Media to Shan-Shui Public Opinion Research Co., regarding Chen Qi-mai's governance performance since taking office, 36.6% of respondents said they were "very satisfied," and 41.9% said they were "somewhat satisfied," with a combined satisfaction rate of 78.5%; 14.7% were dissatisfied, and 6.9% did not express an opinion.
Cross-analysis showed that respondents from the former Kaohsiung County area had a satisfaction rate of 80.7%, higher than the 76.6% in the former Kaohsiung City area. When analyzed by party affiliation, DPP supporters had a satisfaction rate of 95.8%; KMT supporters were at 52%; TPP supporters at 62.2%; and those without party affiliation also had 75.5% expressing satisfaction, indicating that governance performance was affirmed by voters of different political stances.
Younger age groups had nearly 90% satisfaction rate Lai Ruei-lung leads in mayoral election polls, outperforming Ke Chien-en In terms of gender, female satisfaction was 80.3%, slightly higher than the male satisfaction rate of 76.6%. By age group, the 20-29 age group had the highest support rate, with a satisfaction rate of 89.2%, and those aged 70 and above also had a satisfaction rate of 81.9%, while the satisfaction rates of other age groups were mostly between 73% and 78%.
The poll also surveyed the 2026 Kaohsiung mayoral election. The results showed that in a scenario where Lai Ruei-lung (DPP) and Ke Chien-en (KMT) face off, 39.6% of respondents supported Lai Ruei-lung, 31.6% supported Ke Chien-en, and 28.8% were undecided. When further asked "Who do you think will win the Kaohsiung mayoral election?", 50.3% of respondents believed Lai Ruei-lung had a higher chance of winning, while 22.8% favored Ke Chien-en, with the rest undecided.
Additionally, the poll showed that among respondents who expressed satisfaction with Chen Qi-mai's governance, 49.3% supported Lai Ruei-lung to succeed as Kaohsiung mayor, while 23% supported Ke Chien-en, indicating a certain correlation between governance satisfaction and mayoral election prospects.
This survey was conducted by Shinwen Media, commissioned to Shan-Shui Public Opinion Research Co., from July 18 to 20, 2026, targeting Kaohsiung residents aged 20 and above, with a total of 1,069 valid samples. At a 95% confidence level, the sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points, and the analysis was weighted by age, gender, education level, and administrative district.
