The 'Principal Lai Er Production Team,' composed of supporters of former Kuomintang (KMT) chairman Eric Chu, along with 'Fengxiang Corporation,' recently released a promotional video ahead of the July 25 anti-toxic oil protest on Ketagalan Boulevard, drawing widespread attention. KMT legislator Hsu Chiao-hsin revealed that Wei Chun-yu, the young staffer behind the 'Principal Lai Er' persona, was visited by officers from the Criminal Investigation Bureau for 'inquiries.' Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen and Eric Chu strongly condemned the move, with Chu accusing the Lai administration of using police power to silence youth creativity and criticism, demanding President Lai Qingde respond.

In response, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Lin Chu-yin stated on the 26th that 'impersonating someone's voice is absolutely not freedom of speech.' She compared the act to fraud syndicates that mimic relatives' voices to scam money, asserting that the KMT and deepfake fraud groups are 'cut from the same cloth.' Regarding the KMT's use of AI to generate President Lai's voice in the video, the Criminal Investigation Bureau warned of potential public misinformation. Yet, Lu Hsiu-yen accused the government of suppressing free speech.

Lin emphasized that the KMT, as the largest party in the legislature, already has ample platforms to criticize the government and the president—this itself is free speech. She condemned the KMT for stealing voices to create fake videos, claiming the intent is to deceive the public. 'Fraud groups love to fake voices to scam money; now the KMT is doing the same to mislead the masses,' she said, criticizing Lu for defending deepfakes instead of condemning fabrication, revealing a troubling alliance between the KMT and deepfake fraud.
