Car and motorcycle owners, please take note! The Highway Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications today (27th) issued a special reminder that the 2026 Highway Maintenance and Management Fee (formerly the automobile fuel fee) for private cars and motorcycles began collection on July 1 and the payment deadline is July 31. According to Highway Bureau statistics, as of July 27, 61% of vehicles have completed payment, but across Taiwan, as many as 7.2 million vehicles have yet to pay. The Bureau urges vehicle owners to pay promptly, as failure to pay by the deadline will result in a legal fine ranging from NT$300 to NT$3,000.
The deadline for the Highway Maintenance Fee for cars and motorcycles is approaching! 7.2 million vehicles across Taiwan remain unpaid—failure to pay by July 31 may result in a maximum fine of NT$3,000.
On June 2026, the Legislative Yuan passed the amendment to Article 23 of the Urban Road Regulations, officially renaming the 'Automobile Fuel Usage Fee (Automobile Fuel Fee)' to the 'Highway Use, Maintenance, and Safety Management Fee,' to be uniformly collected by the highway authority. The allocation ratio will be determined through consultation between the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of the Interior. The public is reminded that this July marks the first collection under the new name, and the payment amount, timing, and channels remain unchanged. Vehicle owners are advised to pay according to the original regulations.
To facilitate payments, the Highway Bureau offers multiple in-person and online payment options:
1. In-person payment: Vehicle owners can bring their payment notice to major financial institutions, post offices, or convenience stores to pay over the counter.
2. Online and mobile payments: Payments can be made via telephone voice service, the Supervision Service website, or by downloading the 'Supervision Service APP' on smartphones. Additionally, multiple apps are supported, including iPASS MONEY, BeBe Pay, O'Pay, Shopee, JKO Pay, iPass Pay, Bank Sinopac, Yuanta Securities, Taipei Fubon Bank, AllPay, and icash, allowing vehicle owners to conveniently complete payments online using credit cards or current bank accounts.
The Highway Bureau specifically notes that for credit card payments, related handling fees should be confirmed with the respective card-issuing banks. All other payment methods are free of handling fees.
Unsure if you've paid? Check instantly via two channels to avoid duplicate payments or late penalties.
If vehicle owners are uncertain whether their vehicle has been paid, the Highway Bureau recommends first checking the payment status online via the 'Supervision Service Website' or the 'Supervision Service APP' to avoid duplicate payments.
If the check reveals that payment has not been made, owners can directly complete the payment online via the 'Supervision Service Website' or 'Supervision Service APP,' or visit one of the four major convenience stores to reprint the payment slip using a multimedia kiosk and pay at the counter.
Payment proof can be printed online! The Highway Bureau promotes 'Scheduled Bank Transfer' to eliminate the risk of forgetting and receiving fines.
For vehicle owners who need payment proof for reimbursement or record-keeping, the Highway Bureau explains that after payment, proof can be instantly queried, downloaded, and printed anytime via the 'Supervision Service Website,' or owners may directly contact local supervision offices for assistance.
Additionally, to prevent innocent penalties due to forgetting to pay amid busy schedules, the Highway Bureau strongly encourages vehicle owners to apply for 'Scheduled Automatic Bank Account Deduction' via the 'Supervision Service Website' or 'Supervision Service APP.' This ensures automatic deduction when the time comes, eliminating the risk of receiving a fine due to missed payments.
