Chiayi's tourism landscape gains a major new landmark. The Xinlang International Skateboard and Surf Park, developed by Guangyu International, officially opened on the 27th in Taibao City, Chiayi County. Adjacent to the National Palace Museum Southern Branch, the park integrates AI-controlled wave systems with world-class skateboarding facilities, positioning itself as Asia’s only theme park to combine surfing and skateboarding in both water and land domains. It aims to attract family visitors, school field trips, and tech-sector guests, encouraging tourists to extend their stay from day trips to overnight visits.
The park’s standout feature is its AI-powered wave generation system, capable of adjusting wave height, shape, and frequency based on user needs. Unaffected by tides or weather, it allows beginners to safely experience surfing while also serving as a training ground for professional athletes.
The facility includes eleven water slides, such as an eight-meter multi-functional slide, kayak channels, and a family splash zone. Additional amenities include shallow pools, submerged private cabins, floating loungers, and relaxation pavilions, ensuring enjoyment for all age groups. On-site dining is available at the 'Xinguang Food Hub' and stylish food trucks, providing refreshments for visitors.
Xinlang has partnered with the 'Mee Mee Up the Tree' petting zoo within the Yangjiao Art Village, allowing guests to interact with black-faced sheep, alpacas, and capybaras after water activities. This integration creates a one-stop family experience combining aquatic fun with animal encounters.
To capture the school field trip market dominated by traditional amusement parks, Xinlang offers skateboarding and surfing experiences with coaching programs, emphasizing a blend of sports, education, and leisure. This provides schools with an alternative to mechanical rides.
With TSMC and its tech supply chain establishing operations in Chiayi’s technology corridor, a growing number of engineers and their families are forming a new consumer base. The park offers group bookings, membership plans, and private events, and plans to host aquatic-themed parties, poolside music, and DJ performances to attract younger, repeat visitors.
Zi Weixin, Chairman of Guangyu International, stated that Xinlang is not a one-time spectacle but a long-term leisure destination. The AI wave system ensures consistent operational quality, while the dual land-water design allows flexible programming based on season and audience. During peak seasons, the park serves families and general tourists; in off-seasons, revenue is sustained through courses, memberships, and corporate events.
Zi emphasized that while Chiayi boasts attractions like Alishan and the National Palace Museum Southern Branch, tourism has largely been limited to single-point visits and day trips. By leveraging its proximity to the museum, Xinlang aims to convert foot traffic into family-oriented overnight stays, thereby boosting surrounding accommodations, dining, and transportation sectors.
Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Zhangliang noted that Chiayi is transitioning from agricultural excellence and tech industry development toward enhancing consumer services. The influx of tech talent and families demands leisure and overnight spaces. Xinlang fills a critical gap in large-scale recreational facilities and has the potential to retain local spending that might otherwise flow elsewhere, becoming a new soft power in cultural tourism.
