Ann Kao, Mayor of Hsinchu City, who maintains friendly relations with Japan, posted a message on Facebook in the evening expressing her deepest concern and condolences on behalf of all Hsinchu citizens to friends and partners in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kumamoto City, and Yatsushiro City.

Mayor Kao stated, "I sincerely pray that everyone can safely overcome this crisis."

She emphasized that since Hsinchu City and Yatsushiro City established their sister-city relationship, and through recent warm exchanges with Kumamoto Prefecture and Kumamoto City, they have always cherished this profound friendship.

"In times of hardship, Hsinchu stands united in spirit with you all. We sincerely wish for the swift recovery of the injured and a smooth reconstruction process. May everyone remain safe and pass through this difficult time," she added.
