The Overseas Community Affairs Council has launched a special National Day tourism subsidy program to welcome the October wave of returning overseas compatriots. Overseas nationals who return to Taiwan to participate in National Day events and complete a self-funded domestic tour of at least three days and two nights will receive a subsidy of NT$3,000 per person. This amount increases to NT$4,000 for those traveling to the Hualien-Taitung (Hua-Tung) region. Details on registration timelines, eligibility criteria, and new highlights such as indigenous community tours have been fully disclosed, with the goal of stimulating domestic tourism.
This year’s National Day events are packed with activities. The National Day evening gala will be grandly held in New Taipei City on October 9, followed by the National Day ceremony and fireworks display on October 10. Ms. Chuang Ya-shu, Director of the Overseas Business Division at the OCAC, emphasized that returning overseas nationals must pay close attention to registration deadlines. Group registration opens on July 10 and closes on August 30, while individual registration extends until September 20. Registration can be completed through multiple channels, including online, fax, or mail. Due to limited quotas for certain popular events, participants must carefully select their desired activities when filling out the application form.
For check-in and verification, eligible overseas nationals can visit the '115th October Celebration Returnee Reception Service Center' set up by the OCAC between October 5 and October 9, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Upon on-site verification, participants will receive an overseas compatriot ID card, which grants access to the National Day evening gala and ceremony. To qualify for the travel subsidy, participants must have entered Taiwan on or after August 1. Subsidy applications will be accepted from September 20 to October 31.
For post-arrival travel planning, both central and local governments have introduced diverse itinerary options. The Council of Indigenous Peoples promoted 34 indigenous community tourism routes across Taiwan, with three new特色 routes added this year in Pingtung County: the Dawu Tribe fishing and hunting mini-trip, the Kao-shih Tribe traditional wedding experience, and the Anpo Tribe Toy Kingdom. The Guangfu Tribe tourism route in Hualien County remains open for selection.
Additionally, representatives from New Taipei City Government highlighted recent major transportation developments, including the trial operation launch of the Taipei Metro SanYing Line and the official opening of the Danjiang Bridge. These improvements offer returning overseas nationals more convenient and enriched travel options. All event details and registration information are now available on the OCAC’s 'October Celebration Event Zone' website for public reference.
