The 'Pinglin New Bridge Construction Project,' a vital transportation link connecting Beitun and Taiping districts, is progressing steadily. To accommodate bridge and road connection works, the Taichung City Construction Bureau will implement Phase Two of traffic maintenance measures from August 1 to 31, 2026. During construction, traffic routes around Huan Tai East Road and Xiangxun Road will be adjusted in stages. Road users are urged to follow on-site traffic direction and guidance facilities when passing through construction zones, and to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time to minimize the impact of construction.

Construction Bureau Director Chen Da-tien stated that Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen places high importance on advancing transportation infrastructure and ensuring public safety. The city government continues to invest in major road and bridge projects to improve the urban transportation network. The 'Pinglin New Bridge Construction Project' is a key transportation initiative linking Beitun and Taiping districts. Upon completion, it will significantly enhance transportation efficiency between the two districts and alleviate traffic pressure on existing roads. The project has now entered a critical phase of bridge and road integration. To balance construction needs with public accessibility, the city has adopted phased traffic maintenance measures, including traffic diversion and road configuration adjustments, to minimize disruptions to surrounding traffic.

The Construction Bureau noted that Phase Two of the traffic maintenance measures will run from August 1 to 31, 2026, with the following adjustments:

1. Huan Tai East Road (from south of Liyuan Park to Lane 308, Chang'an Road) will be fully closed for construction. Road users must follow on-site signage and detour routes.

2. The sidewalk elevation work on the Xiangxun Road approach will be carried out in stages according to construction progress:

(a) Phase Two (August 1–7, 2026): The east-side lanes separated by the median will be closed, with traffic diverted to alternating lanes. The west-side road will maintain one lane each for northbound and southbound traffic.

(b) Phase Three (August 8–14, 2026): Lane widths on both sides will be reduced, maintaining two-way traffic in both north and south directions.

(c) Phase Four (August 15–21, 2026): Lane widths on both sides will be reduced, maintaining two-way traffic. Additionally, northbound traffic on Xiangxun Road will be prohibited from turning left onto Xinping Road; drivers are advised to use alternative routes in advance.

(d) Phase Five (August 22–31, 2026): Lane widths on both sides will be reduced, maintaining two-way traffic.

The Construction Bureau will install detour route signs, warning devices, and traffic control equipment around the construction zone and major intersections. Traffic management measures will be adjusted dynamically based on real-time traffic flow to ensure smooth passage and minimize inconvenience to road users.

The Bureau expressed appreciation for public understanding and cooperation during the construction period. The city government will continue supervising the construction team to strictly implement traffic maintenance and on-site safety management, ensuring construction quality, worker safety, and traffic smoothness, and actively advancing toward the goal of opening the bridge by the end of 2026, providing citizens with a safer and more convenient transportation environment at the earliest possible date.
