Mayor Chen Chi-mai honored eight outstanding officers and members of the Kaohsiung Workers' Charity Special Task Force during the city council meeting on the 28th, expressing gratitude for their use of professional expertise to embody the labor union’s spirit of solidarity and mutual support in assisting vulnerable workers.
To realize the policy goal of a 'fair city and socially inclusive society,' the Labor Bureau has actively mobilized labor unions to contribute to public welfare, integrating the specialized skills of dedicated workers. On August 31, 2020 (109th year), the 'Kaohsiung Workers' Charity Special Task Force' was established, comprising three public service units: the Repair Unit, Supplies Unit, and Services Unit. Through fundraising coordinated by the Kaohsiung Social Welfare Charity Association, the Task Force conducts charitable activities such as free haircuts, performances, supply distributions, and home repairs. To date, it has completed 14 home repair projects for vulnerable worker households and delivered approximately 250 public welfare services, including supply distributions, free haircuts, communal cooking (Yi-zhu), and performances.
Mayor Chen particularly thanked Task Force leaders, including Chairman Yang Yi-ji (Commander-in-Chief), Chairman Hong Xin-jie (Deputy Commander-in-Chief), Chairman Hsu You-cheng (Repair Unit), Chairman Chang Yi-de (Supplies Unit), Chairwoman Tu Ya-hui (Services Unit), as well as former leaders Chairman Chen Chun-sheng (former Commander-in-Chief) and Chairman Lin Jin-yuan (former Deputy Commander-in-Chief). He commended these union officers for consistently sacrificing their leisure time on holidays to actively participate in charitable activities, demonstrating the solidarity and compassion of working people.
He also expressed gratitude to Chairman Li Zhao-yang and the Kaohsiung Social Welfare Charity Association for their support in fundraising and financial management, calling them the strongest backing for the Task Force. Looking ahead, Mayor Chen hopes to further upgrade the Task Force’s efforts by rallying more labor unions to join, linking union resources to sustain a culture of love and unity in the port city.
