The 2026 local elections are drawing widespread attention, with the New Taipei City mayoral race emerging as a key battleground. Today (29th), the Kuomintang New Taipei City Council Caucus released the latest public opinion survey conducted by the TVBS Polling Center.
The survey indicates that if Taipei City Deputy Mayor Li Sichuan represents the Kuomintang in a contest against DPP legislator Su Chiao-hui, Li would secure 43.7% support among New Taipei citizens, compared to Su's 36.8%, widening the gap to 6.9 percentage points. Meanwhile, 17.4% of residents remain undecided, and 2.1% explicitly stated they support neither candidate.
Analyzing trends from the latest data, Li Sichuan's lead has slightly increased compared to the previous survey. According to TVBS's earlier poll released on June 8, Li led with 39.2% support against Su's 33.0%, a 6.2-point difference. In the latest July data, Li not only surpassed the 40% support threshold but also extended his lead by an additional 0.7 points compared to last month.
The poll also examined which candidate is perceived as more capable of fulfilling their campaign promises. Results show that 34.2% of respondents believe Li Sichuan would better deliver on his platform, compared to 29.3% who chose Su Chiao-hui. Another 30.9% expressed no opinion.
Notably, cross-analysis reveals significant trends among party supporters and centrist voters. Among Taiwan People's Party (TPP) supporters, 55% believe Li Sichuan is more capable of implementing his policies, while only 15.4% chose Su. Among undecided or centrist voters, 23.5% believe Li can effectively execute his platform, compared to 15.9% for Su—giving Li a 7.6-point advantage in this category.
The survey also assessed public satisfaction with incumbent Mayor Hou Yu-ih's administration. A substantial 67.6% of New Taipei residents expressed satisfaction (14.8% 'very satisfied,' 52.8% 'somewhat satisfied'), while 13.2% were dissatisfied, and 19.2% offered no clear opinion.
This survey was commissioned by the KMT New Taipei City Council Caucus and conducted by TVBS using a Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system. The sampling method employed Random Digit Dialing (RDD) of landline numbers, randomly selecting the last two digits. The 'any adult' method was used to filter eligible respondents. The survey was conducted from July 20 to 23, 115 (2026), between 6:30 PM and 10:00 PM, interviewing 20-year-old and above residents registered in New Taipei City. A total of 1,303 valid responses were collected. At a 95% confidence level, the sampling error is within ±2.7 percentage points. Data were weighted based on New Taipei City's population statistics from the end of 114 (2025), released by the Ministry of the Interior, adjusting for gender, age, region, and education level.
