Taiwan's stock market plunged over 2,000 points intraday today (29), hitting a low of 39,384, before closing down 1,564.18 points at 40,039.18. 'Card Goddess' Yang Hui-ru posted on Facebook, stating that the continued stock decline, combined with the toxic salad oil scandal, Executive Yuan Premier Cho Jung-tai's incompetence, and the negative spillover effect from DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang, means the green camp and President Lai must prepare for impact.
Growing skepticism over the AI boom intensified selling pressure on tech stocks. Wall Street closed mixed, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index plunging over 4%. In Asia, both Japanese and South Korean markets turned negative after opening positive—Japan fell around 1.75%, while South Korea dropped approximately 6.01%.
Taiwan's market opened lower at 41,491.48, briefly turned positive, then continued to fall. It hit an intraday low of 39,384.85, breaking below the 40,000 mark with a maximum drop of 2,218.51 points, and closed at 40,039.18.

Yang Hui-ru stated, 'The prediction has come true early.' Taiwan's stock index broke 40,000 before August, and could fall to 35,000 by year-end. Combined with the recent Chung Lian toxic oil scandal, Cho Jung-tai's incompetence, and Shen Po-yang's negative spillover, although Taiwan's market was also dragged down by Korea, she urged the DPP and President Lai to 'prepare for the impact.'
