The 'Cathay United Bank Formosa Co-branded Card', commonly used for saving on fuel costs, will officially reach the end of its contract on Friday, July 31, 2026, and will be discontinued from Saturday, August 1, 2026, losing all card functionality. Cathay United Bank explained that this change is due to a transformation in the partnership model, and future related benefits will be fully integrated into the CUBE credit card, which already serves over 6 million cardholders, under a new benefits program called 'Formosa Home'.
The end of an era for the 'fuel-saving miracle card'! Cathay United Bank's Formosa Co-branded Card to be discontinued from August 1, with benefits transferred to the CUBE card's 'Formosa Home' program – a complete guide on card replacement and fuel credit handling.
Regarding the card replacement and benefits transition measures for the discontinuation of the Formosa Co-branded Card, Cathay United Bank has clarified the following:
· For cardholders without a CUBE card: The bank will automatically issue a new CUBE credit card of the same international network and card tier (including supplementary cards), and will notify the primary cardholder via SMS when the physical card is mailed.
· For cardholders who already have a CUBE card: The bank will not issue a new card. The benefits and data from the original Formosa card will be directly transferred to the existing CUBE card.
Electronic wallet differences: CUBE cards are only issued in EasyCard and icash versions. The 'Formosa iPass Co-branded Card' will be replaced with a CUBE card without electronic wallet functionality. If a cardholder holds both a Formosa EasyCard and an icash card, priority will be given to issuing a CUBE EasyCard co-branded card.
What happens to unused 'fuel credits'? NT$1 converts directly to NT$1 in credit card statement credit
Regarding the highly anticipated 'fuel credit' benefit, Cathay United Bank stated that if cardholders still hold the Formosa Co-branded Card before the discontinuation date and have unused fuel credits, these will be automatically converted into credit card statement credits at a rate of 'NT$1 fuel credit = NT$1 statement credit', directly offsetting the credit card bill. The actual posting time will depend on the bank's internal processing schedule.
Additionally, automatic payment services linked to the card (such as water, electricity, gas, Chunghwa Telecom, eTag auto-recharge, and eTag smart parking fee payments) will automatically be transferred to other valid credit cards under the cardholder's name starting August 1. However, for non-listed automatic payments, cardholders must contact the respective service providers directly to update their payment details.
Handling of electronic wallet balances and periodic ticket refunds
After discontinuation, the electronic wallet function of the original Formosa Co-branded Card will no longer be usable. The relevant balances and refund policies are as follows:
· Periodic ticket refunds: If a 'Public Transport Periodic Ticket' was purchased using the Formosa Co-branded Card on or after July 1, 2026, cardholders must personally visit designated sales outlets in their region during the ticket's validity period to process a refund. The refund amount will be prorated based on days used, and some regional plans may incur a handling fee.
· iPass balance: iPass Company will centrally transfer stored value balances to the credit card statement.
· EasyCard and icash balances: Cardholders must personally visit designated outlets of EasyCard Company or iCash Company to process card cancellation and balance transfers.
