LINE users, take note: back up your important chat memories and data now! On the 28th, LINE officially announced an update to its operational policy, revealing that two types of posts in the 'Notebook' feature will be officially discontinued starting September 2026. Then, in October, all affected historical posts—including comments and emoji reactions—will be permanently deleted. Which features are impacted? How can users back up their data before the deadline? This article covers everything you need to know.

Starting September 14, 2026: Two post types to be phased out—no new posts allowed in LINE Notebook

According to LINE's official statement, to align with overall service optimization, starting September 14, 2026, both personal/group chat rooms and 'LINE Communities' will no longer support creating the following two types of posts in the Notebook:

- Text Cards: Users will no longer be able to apply colorful backgrounds to text. Posts will only appear as plain text going forward. - Auto-posted Polls: When initiating a poll in a chat, the system will no longer automatically sync the poll content to the Notebook.

Note: Although the auto-sync function will be discontinued, the 'Poll' feature within chat rooms will remain fully functional and unaffected.

October 7, 2026: Major cleanup—affected posts and all comments to be permanently deleted

In addition to restricting new posts, LINE will conduct a large-scale purge of historical data stored on its servers. Starting October 7, 2026, the system will permanently remove the following two categories of legacy data:

- Existing auto-posted 'Poll' and 'LINE Pick a Date' posts - 'LINE VOOM' posts (formerly 'LINE Timeline') shared to the Notebook

Importantly, this cleanup includes all comments and emoji reactions under these posts. Once deleted, data cannot be restored. If you've previously used the Notebook's Poll or Pick a Date features to record important gatherings, group purchases, or class schedules, be sure to back up your data promptly.

Second major change within a year: LINE Notebook's free features continue to shrink

This marks the second time LINE has adjusted the Notebook feature in 2026. As early as April 27, the company discontinued the 'free video upload' feature in the Notebook, requiring users to subscribe to the paid LINE Premium plan to access advanced cloud video backup services. With the further reduction of text card and auto-poll features, LINE is clearly moving toward streamlining free services and reducing backend database load.

Avoid losing memories: Two essential methods to back up critical data

To prevent data loss before the October 7, 2026 deadline, users are strongly advised to back up their data using the following methods:

- Text and comments: Long-press to copy important text content and paste it into your phone's memo app, Google Keep, or other cloud note software for safekeeping. - Poll and response records: To preserve past poll results or interactions from friends and family, the fastest method is to take a 'screenshot' using your phone and back it up to your photo album.
