The Bureau of Labor Insurance (BOLI) launched its final round of July disbursements today (31st), with six types of payments simultaneously deposited into beneficiaries’ accounts. The most anticipated, the 'National Pension Insurance Funeral Allowance,' can be claimed as a lump sum of up to NT$105,515. However, this benefit has a five-year claim deadline. Applications submitted after this period will result in the loss of eligibility, so the public is urged to act promptly to safeguard their rights.

According to BOLI’s announcement, today’s disbursements include not only the National Pension funeral allowance but also the National Pension old-age annuity, survivor annuity, disability annuity, and wage subsidies for prenatal checkup leave, companion prenatal checkup leave, and paternity leave—totaling six payments. Eligible individuals can verify deposits by checking their passbooks at post offices or financial institutions.

National Pension Funeral Allowance: Up to NT$105,515 – 5 Claim Conditions Explained

One key focus of today’s disbursement is the National Pension Insurance Funeral Allowance. BOLI emphasizes that not all deaths qualify—applicants must meet specific criteria and submit complete documentation for approval.

1. The insured person must have died during National Pension coverage

The primary condition is that the insured person must have died while actively covered under the National Pension Insurance, meaning before age 65 and while still an insured member. If the person died after dropping coverage or after turning 65, they do not qualify for the funeral allowance.

2. Only the person who actually paid funeral expenses can apply

The funeral allowance is not automatically claimed by family members. It must be applied for by the individual who actually paid the funeral costs. Therefore, applicants must provide proof of payment to verify their financial responsibility.

3. Benefit amount calculated based on year of death

The National Pension funeral allowance is a lump sum equal to five months of the monthly insured amount.

Starting January 1, 2026, the monthly insured amount for National Pension has been adjusted to NT$21,103. Therefore, if the insured person died this year, the payout is:

NT$21,103 × 5 months = NT$105,515

For deaths occurring between 2023 and 2025, the amount was based on the previous monthly insured amount of NT$19,761, resulting in:

NT$19,761 × 5 months = NT$98,805

4. Five documents required for application

Applicants must submit the following documents:

- Completed National Pension Funeral Allowance Application Form - Copy of applicant’s ID card (front and back) - Copy of bank or post office passbook cover - Death certificate or autopsy report - Household register copy showing death registration - Original proof of funeral expense payment

Incomplete documentation may delay processing, so it is recommended to prepare all documents before applying.

5. Application methods

After preparing the documents, applicants can:

- Mail them to: National Pension Division, Bureau of Labor Insurance, No. 42, Section 2, Jiyuan Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City - Or submit in person at any BOLI branch office

No Payment After 5 Years – BOLI Warns of Strict Deadline

In addition to eligibility requirements, BOLI stresses that the National Pension funeral allowance has a strict statute of limitations.

Applicants must file their claim within five years from the day after the insured person’s death. Applications submitted after this five-year window will be legally considered as waived, and BOLI will deny the payment. No retroactive payments will be made. The public is strongly advised to pay attention to the deadline to avoid losing their rights.

5 Additional Benefits Disbursed Today – Check Eligibility

In addition to the National Pension funeral allowance, BOLI also disbursed five other benefits today:

- National Pension Old-Age Annuity: Available to those aged 65 or older who meet National Pension requirements and have paid premiums. Currently, the monthly payout starts at NT$4,049. - National Pension Survivor Annuity: Eligible survivors of deceased insured persons can apply. Monthly payments start at NT$4,049. - National Pension Disability Annuity (including combined Labor Insurance tenure): Severely disabled individuals receive a basic monthly amount of NT$5,437. If they also have Labor Insurance tenure, the amounts can be combined for a higher payout. - Wage Subsidy for Prenatal Checkup, Companion Checkup, and Paternity Leave: Under current laws, workers are entitled to seven days of prenatal checkup leave and paternity leave. Employers who pay full wages for the 6th and 7th days can apply to BOLI for full wage reimbursement, reducing business burden.
