On the evening of the 31st, semiconductor foundry Powerchip announced that Chairman David Hwang passed away peacefully in his sleep at home due to respiratory failure, at the age of 76. The company stated that Vice Chairman Jason Sheh will legally assume interim duties as Chairman. Powerchip emphasized that all production and sales operations will continue to advance according to established plans, and all employees remain fully committed to carrying forward the vision of founder Dr. David Hwang to pioneer new frontiers for Taiwan's high-tech industry. Amid growing CoWoS supply shortages leading to order overflow, Powerchip has completed verification of its 4-layer WoW technology, with 8-layer stacking achieving over 90% yield. Hwang previously stated that Powerchip is no longer just a traditional mature-node foundry. The impact of DRAM price increases has also taken effect, with Powerchip's Q2 gross margin rising to 28%. Hwang affirmed that the company will definitely distribute dividends next year, and there remains room for further price adjustments in mature-node processes. He also noted that demand for mature-node chips remains stable, and the impact of U.S. tariffs is limited.
