On the 30th, during the Legislative Yuan's Education and Culture Committee's review of the draft 'Basic Act for the Development of Esports,' Sports Minister Li Yang briefly stood at the witness podium, triggering a political clash between parties. DPP-affiliated Taichung City Councilor Jiang Zhao-guo posted on social media an image showing Li Yang standing while KMT legislator Luo Ting-wei sat at the presiding chair, criticizing Luo for making Li 'stand in punishment' and preventing him from speaking.
However, Luo Ting-wei promptly released the live session footage to clarify, emphasizing that it was DPP legislators who requested Li Yang to stand during questioning. He also pointed out that he had repeatedly asked, 'Can the minister please sit down?' and 'Can the minister answer while seated?' He stated that the posts deliberately cropped images to mislead public opinion, contradicting the actual situation.
In response, media commentator Chen Feng-xin stated on a political talk show that the full video clearly shows Luo Ting-wei explicitly asking for Li Yang to be seated. Meanwhile, DPP legislator Chen Pei-yu was heard saying, 'He should just stand,' making the entire process transparent and easily verifiable.
Chen Feng-xin argued that if Jiang Zhao-guo continues to post content contradicting the facts despite the availability of full video evidence, Luo Ting-wei should file a lawsuit to demand post removal or a public apology. She noted that Jiang, not being a legislator, lacks the immunity for speech within the chamber, and thus could be liable for defamation. 'We should not allow them to spread rumors,' she said, stressing that only by clarifying facts can the spread of misinformation be stopped.
Beyond the controversy, Chen also expressed concern for Li Yang's position. She said she has always admired Li Yang's performance as a national badminton player, but as the new sports minister without prior administrative experience, he now faces difficult tasks such as administrative coordination, inter-ministerial communication, and legislative questioning.
Chen noted that although Li is passionate and adds value to the administration, during this incident, he was caught between partisan political attacks, appearing helpless and repeatedly glancing toward DPP legislators—a sight that made her heart ache. She bluntly stated, 'You have truly ruined him,' criticizing that an outstanding athlete who wanted to serve the sports community has now become a victim of political conflict.
