Kaohsiung Silver Voice Singing Contest: Nearly 60 Seniors Advance to Finals

When the silver-haired singers opened their mouths, their presence was in no way inferior to that of the young. The West District preliminary round of the Silver Voice Singing Contest, organized by the Kaohsiung City Government Social Bureau, was held on July 30 at the Civil Engineering Campus of Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. Nearly 60 seniors took the stage one after another, singing their life stories and youthful energy through their voices. The audience responded with applause and cheers.

The silver-haired singers competed in skill, pouring their life experiences into their songs. The competition was divided into the "Evergreen Group" for those 80 years and older, and the "Active Group" for those 65 to under 80 years old. Participants included those who sang classic old songs with deep emotion, and those who energized the audience with powerful voices. Each performer dressed up for the stage, demonstrating their seriousness towards the competition.

After intense competition, Chen He Mei took first place in the Evergreen Group, while Chen Zhen and Zheng Feng Yu Lan took second and third places, respectively. In the Active Group, Chen Guan Jin Yan took first place, with Yang Ming Yuan and Wu Liang Yan in second and third places. The top three from each group not only received gift certificates but also tickets to the September finals, where they will compete with other district qualifiers for the annual honor.

This competition is not just about singing skills; it is also about the courage to stand on stage. The Silver Voice Singing Contest has been held for three consecutive years, not only as a competition for seniors to showcase their singing talents but also to encourage them to leave their homes, make friends, and increase their sense of participation in life, so that their post-retirement lives remain full of goals and passion.

Eu Mei Yu, director of the Kaohsiung City Government Social Bureau Elderly Comprehensive Service Center, emphasized that for seniors to stand on stage, they need long hours of practice, the ability to withstand competition pressure, and a love and persistence for singing. Behind what appears to be a relaxed performance is a accumulation of life experience and effort. The competition hopes to allow seniors to fully express themselves and enjoy the sense of achievement and active life brought by music.

The preliminary rounds of the Silver Voice Singing Contest will be held in various districts from July to August, with the top three from each competition advancing to the finals. The next North District preliminary round will be held on August 5 at the Gangshan Sports Center, where you can enjoy the seniors' wonderful performances.
