To meet the power demands of the semiconductor industry in the Southern Science Park Kaohsiung Phase III (Nanzi Park), Taipower advanced the completion of the 'Kaohsiung–Hsiung-Chi III & IV (Kaohsiung–Kao-Lien) Transmission Line Project,' officially energizing it yesterday (1st). This marks a critical power infrastructure milestone supporting Kaohsiung's semiconductor industry. Taipower stated that upon commissioning, the Nanzi Park's power supply capacity will increase from the current ~400MW to over 1,000MW, significantly enhancing both capacity and reliability.
The 9.6-kilometer transmission line has now been fully integrated into the grid, supporting the development of Kaohsiung's semiconductor cluster and strengthening grid resilience. Taipower noted the 'Kaohsiung–Hsiung-Chi III & IV Lines' project began construction in May 2025, spanning approximately 9.6 kilometers across Kaohsiung's Sanmin, Gushan, and Zuoying districts, traversing key corridors including Zhonghua Road, Cuihua Road, and the Nanzi Park.
To balance construction efficiency with public traffic needs, Taipower implemented measures such as adding work crews, extending working hours, and conducting safe parallel construction, successfully shortening the project timeline from the original 42 months to just 15 months—over two years ahead of schedule.
The newly built transmission lines are designed to meet current 161kV transmission requirements while allowing future scalability to 345kV, ensuring flexibility to accommodate ongoing semiconductor investments and rising power demand in the park. This upgrade further enhances overall power reliability and grid resilience in Kaohsiung.
The energization ceremony yesterday was witnessed by Taipower Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng, General Manager Kuo Tien-ho, and frontline engineering teams, symbolizing the official operation of this vital power infrastructure and providing stable energy support for the Nanzi semiconductor cluster.
Taipower expressed gratitude to the Kaohsiung City Government, local legislators, and citizens for their support and cooperation during construction, which helped mitigate traffic disruptions. Going forward, Taipower will continue strengthening Kaohsiung's power infrastructure, improving power quality, and serving as a robust backbone for high-tech industrial development by building a more resilient power system.
