The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) is holding its anniversary event this afternoon (2nd), with a VIP seat designated for Lu Hsiao-yan, the KMT mayor of Taichung, drawing public attention. Party Chair Huang Kuo-chang stated that the TPP has maintained close communication with Lu, not only during elections but also on major national policies, frequently exchanging opinions. As this year’s party anniversary is held in Taichung and Lu is the city’s leader, she was invited to join the celebration. Huang expressed confidence that the TPP will continue building closer cooperation with KMT allies and Lu on critical pro-people policies beyond just local elections.

The TPP held its party delegate conference and anniversary event in Taichung today. Before the conference, Huang Kuo-chang spoke to the press. Regarding the no-confidence motion, Huang emphasized that both founding chair Ko Wen-je and he himself have repeatedly stated that the core issue is the Lai administration’s mishandling of critical民生 issues, particularly the food safety scandal. He noted that the overwhelming consensus among opposition parties is to hold President Lai Qingde accountable, a goal later affirmed by Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an.

Huang criticized the Executive Yuan for failing to provide a clear explanation since the food safety scandal erupted. As judicial investigations progress, more evidence of the Executive Yuan’s concealment continues to emerge. While the Executive Yuan initially claimed that businesses voluntarily disclosed information, it has since been revealed that companies were aware of the issue and concealed it for a long time. Many critical facts remain unexplained, and Huang stressed that opposition parties must fulfill their supervisory role in the legislature to demand accountability from the Lai administration.

Huang pointed out that from the Executive Yuan Premier Cho Jung-tai’s special report at the legislature to the facts disclosed by the official investigation team, it remains unclear who decided on July 3rd and 4th not to release downstream vendors’ names, not to recall products, and to set an arbitrary 20% threshold. He further criticized the revelation that Chung Lien’s general manager and plant manager attended a key meeting at the Executive Yuan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, where such unreasonable decisions were made.

Huang demanded that the Executive Yuan clearly explain to the public what roles the detained and barred general manager and plant manager of Chung Lien—already ruled by the court to have lied and concealed critical facts—played in that crucial meeting. Why did the Executive Yuan conceal this information from the public for over a month? More seriously, state-owned Taisugar apparently knew about the contaminated oil early on—did Taisugar report it? To date, the Executive Yuan has failed to clarify these critical facts, leaving the public shocked by the extent of information suppression. Huang urged Premier Cho to stop hiding and come forward with a full and transparent explanation.
