Legislative Vice President and Taichung mayoral candidate Chiang Chi-chen, together with Taichung City Council Speaker Chang Ching-chao, held a grand joint policy briefing on October 2 at the Qingshui Ziyunyan Cultural Center. The event drew hundreds of coastal residents and was attended by Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen, Deputy Speaker Yen Li-min, Qingshui Farmers’ Association General Manager Yen Chiu-yueh, along with numerous city councilors and local village chiefs, demonstrating strong KMT unity and election momentum in the coastal region.
Chiang expressed heartfelt gratitude to attendees and praised Mayor Lu for her leadership over the past eight years, which earned Taichung the 'National Happy City Gold Award' for eight consecutive years. He emphasized the need to seamlessly continue this outstanding governance, confidently declaring, 'Chiang Chi-chen is ready.' He pledged to build upon Lu’s solid foundation, upgrading and accelerating key city developments.
For the coastal region’s future, Chiang introduced a forward-looking strategy titled 'Dual-Port Coastal, Infinite Development,' highlighting the strategic advantages of Taichung Port and Ching Chuan Kang Airport. He proposed deepening linkages in tourism, culture, and local commerce. On transportation, he committed to accelerating the Blue Line MRT, extending the Orange Line to Qingshui and connecting it with the Blue Line to form a complete rail network. He also vowed to push for the double-tracking and elevated construction of the coastal railway and the extension of National Highway No. 4 to Taichung Port, improving safe and efficient connectivity between the mountain, coastal, and urban areas.
In recreation and sports, Chiang plans to transform Aofengshan into a comprehensive leisure park and construct an indoor velodrome meeting international 250-meter standards, enhancing Taichung’s global reputation as a 'City of Bicycles.'
Mayor Lu, serving as head of Chiang’s campaign headquarters, emotionally recalled Qingshui as her 'lucky place' and a key to her political rise. Eight years ago, she campaigned here, and since then, the coastal region has seen significant population and infrastructure growth. Qingshui’s population has now surpassed 90,000, a historic high. Lu praised Chiang’s international vision and extensive national legislative experience, calling him the ideal successor to elevate Taichung onto the global stage. She urged voters to consolidate support behind Chiang and Speaker Chang to ensure harmonious governance and the continuation of elderly welfare and local development projects.
Speaker Chang emphasized that over the past two decades, his team has secured major projects including the Marine Ecology Pavilion, National Sports Center, Gaomei Wetlands enhancement, and Aofengshan Park. He stressed that this election determines Taichung’s future stability and prosperity, urging unity to ensure a landslide victory for all KMT nominees. Yen Chiu-yueh, General Manager of Qingshui Farmers’ Association, lauded Chiang’s high-quality legislative performance and professionalism, expressing hope that he will transform Taichung into a flagship city seamlessly connected to the international community.
The policy briefing concluded triumphantly amid enthusiastic chants of 'Dong Shuai!' (a homophone for 'elected') and a group photo.
