The 2026 FARG Awards ceremony was held yesterday (3rd), where the Taichung City Government Construction Bureau received high praise from the judging panel for its quality public works and innovative planning, securing five major awards: one Excellence Award, one Special Award, one Gold Award, and two Quality Awards—demonstrating Taichung’s achievements in high-standard urban development. Deputy Director Chen Yong-xin led the team to accept the awards, marking official recognition of the city government’s engineering quality. The winning projects span diverse areas including park environments, cultural facilities, sports venues, road infrastructure, and memorial facilities, highlighting Taichung’s ongoing efforts to build a livable city.

Construction Bureau Director Chen Da-tian stated that Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen prioritizes public works quality, and the municipal team consistently upholds the highest standards across planning, design, construction, and maintenance to create safe, convenient, and sustainable public spaces. This recognition honors the engineering team’s dedication and acknowledges the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved in these projects.

Hosted by the Chinese Institute of Real Estate, the FARG Awards recognized five Taichung projects this year. The 'Taichung Spring Park' won the Excellence Award in the Best Management and Maintenance category; the 'Taichung Green & Art Museum New Construction Project' received the Special Award in Best Construction Quality; the 'Wuri Community Sports Center New Construction Project' earned the Gold Award in Best Planning and Design; and the 'Wenliao Creek (Jiahou Road to Jingguo Road) Connector Road Project' and the 'Third Naku Tower at Taiping First Garden Cemetery' received Quality Awards in Best Planning and Design and Best Construction Quality, respectively.

The 'Taichung Green & Art Museum,' awarded the Special Award for construction quality, was designed and supervised by Pritzker Prize winners Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa in collaboration with Taiwan’s architect Liu Pei-sen. It features 109 single-pendulum friction seismic isolators, combining earthquake resilience with architectural elegance to create a new urban landmark integrating culture, art, and public services.

The 'Taichung Spring Park,' honored with the Excellence Award for management and maintenance, centers on ecological stormwater retention, disaster mitigation, and historical preservation. It integrates sugar industry heritage, natural habitats, and smart ecological maintenance to create an urban oasis that supports recreation, ecology, and disaster resilience.

Other projects include the 'Wuri Community Sports Center,' designed for intergenerational health and sustainability, offering a multifunctional space for sports, relaxation, and community interaction. The 'Wenliao Creek Connector Road' improves traffic flow in Dajia and Waipu, incorporating pedestrian-friendly design, stormwater basins, and distinctive bridge architecture to enhance safety and aesthetics. The 'Third Naku Tower at Taiping First Garden Cemetery' (Taiping Memorial Hall), funded at NT$360 million, adds over 33,000 new urn spaces, significantly expanding funeral service capacity in the Tun District.

The Construction Bureau emphasized that high-quality public infrastructure is foundational to urban competitiveness. Moving forward, it will continue to enforce strict quality control, construction safety, and sustainability principles to build a more livable and resilient Taichung.
