Memory has become a critical component of the AI industry, enabling the 'big three storage giants'—South Korea's Samsung and SK Hynix, and U.S.-based Micron—to achieve substantial profit gains, although production capacity remains insufficient. According to the latest market data released by research firms, Chinese manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) recorded a staggering 716% year-on-year revenue increase in the second quarter of 2026, making it the fastest-growing memory company globally. In second place is Taiwan's Nanya Technology, which reported a 690% year-on-year revenue growth in the same quarter.
Research firm Counterpoint Research noted significant shifts in the global DRAM industry rankings. Samsung has reclaimed the top market position, while Micron is rapidly closing in on SK Hynix. Meanwhile, CXMT's revenue surged 716% during the same period, marking the highest growth rate worldwide.
Who is the Global Memory King? Samsung Successfully Reclaims the Crown
The report states that Samsung regained the number one position in the global DRAM market in Q2 2026, with its market share rebounding sharply to 39%, returning to 2024 levels. A year earlier, Samsung had ceded the leadership to SK Hynix, but has now successfully launched a counteroffensive, demonstrating strong recovery momentum.
In contrast, while SK Hynix achieved a 214% year-on-year revenue growth in Q2—setting a new record—the company's market share declined from 39% in the same quarter last year to 26%. Micron, meanwhile, continues to benefit from the AI boom. Since the rise of the AI wave in 2023, its performance has steadily improved, reaching a 25% market share, nearly matching SK Hynix and approaching the status of the world's second-largest DRAM manufacturer.

How is Taiwan's Memory Sector Performing? Nanya Tech Sees Revenue Surge, Ranking Second Worldwide
The report highlights another key development beyond the big three: the rise of China's CXMT and Taiwan's Nanya Technology.
According to the analysis, CXMT's DRAM revenue in Q2 soared 716% year-on-year, making it the world's fastest-growing DRAM supplier, driven primarily by robust demand for legacy DRAM in the Chinese market and continuous capacity expansion.
Meanwhile, Nanya Technology reported a 690% year-on-year revenue increase, attributed to rising demand and supply for DDR, LPDDR4, and LPDDR5 memory, along with sustained output ramp-up.

Can CXMT Join the 'Big Three'? Research VP Says It's Just a Matter of Time
Neil Shah, Vice President at Counterpoint Research, pointed out that a key focus for the second half of the year will be how CXMT utilizes funds raised from its recent IPO to accelerate capacity expansion in HBM and LPDDR6.
Shah predicts that if CXMT can successfully enhance its production capacity and technological capabilities, meet growing demand, and gradually enter the PC market and secure clients among international top-tier brands, its market share could see a significant rise within the next year. He stated, 'It's not a question of whether CXMT can join the global memory big three—it's only a matter of when.'
