To improve the transportation network of the Semiconductor S-Corridor, the project to add a new interchange and access road to National Highway No. 1 held its groundbreaking and blessing ceremony today (5th). Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and Minister of Transportation Chen Shih-kai attended the ceremony and jointly performed the groundbreaking ritual.
Mayor Chen Chi-mai stated, "Transportation is a vital artery connecting industrial development and urban transformation. I thank the Executive Yuan and the Ministry of Transportation for their strong support. By improving the road network, we will further connect Qiaotou, Jenwu, and industrial clusters across southern Taiwan, strengthening the momentum for the Semiconductor S-Corridor's development."
The total budget for surrounding external roads, interchanges, and related road networks around Qiaotou Science Park reaches NT$15.7 billion. Mayor Chen emphasized that Qiaotou Science Park is a key base for Kaohsiung's industrial development, with over 30 companies already进驻. In addition to Foxconn, major international firms are expected to进驻 soon.
In response to the development needs of Qiaotou, Baipu Industrial Park, the National University of Kaohsiung Special Zone, and the Yanchao area, the city government and central authorities are jointly advancing external transportation infrastructure. The total budget for the surrounding road network is NT$15.7 billion, with approximately NT$5.2 billion allocated for the current Qiaotou interchange and access road project, which will significantly enhance the park's external transportation efficiency and provide a more complete transportation environment.
Mayor Chen noted that the road network construction around Qiaotou is not only for industrial development but also simultaneously improves local transportation and living environments. Major projects such as Road 1-1 and 1-2, the Taichiu Line under the high-speed rail, road widening, and culvert openings are being progressively advanced. In the future, key industrial hubs including Shalun, Qiaotou, the TSMC park in Nanzih, Jenwu Industrial Park, and the North Kaohsiung Industrial Park will be interconnected, further strengthening the transportation network of the Semiconductor S-Corridor.
Mayor Chen expressed gratitude for the strong support from central and local representatives and residents throughout the planning and construction of Qiaotou Science Park. He thanked the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Transportation, and all sectors for their resource investment and efforts in accelerating major transportation projects. He also hopes for continued central support for the subsequent phases of the Taichiu Line project, making the Semiconductor S-Corridor's transportation network more complete and laying a solid foundation for industrial development.
Minister Chen Shih-kai emphasized that in line with the development of the Greater Southern Semiconductor S-Corridor, the Ministry of Transportation continues to advance key transportation projects in Kaohsiung. The Nanzih interchange broke ground in March this year, and the Qiaotou interchange and access road project has now commenced. The Gangshan Second Interchange is scheduled to start construction in September this year, and National Highway No. 7 aims to begin construction by the end of the year. The Ministry is accelerating major projects such as the expansion of National Highway No. 1 and the Taichiu Line, closely collaborating with the Kaohsiung City Government to support industrial upgrading and urban development through a complete transportation network, providing citizens with a safer and more convenient transportation environment.
